It is possible to purchase cancellation protection which protects you from expensive cancellation fees if you get ill or get any other serious hindrances.
When is the cancellation protection valid?
The cancellation protection is valid in the following cases: acute illness, accident, etc. that affects you or a relative and, in some cases, a fellow traveller or due to serious damage on permanent residence.
The main rule is that it should be unreasonable to carry out the trip. Examples of such cases are if a doctor recommends you not to travel due to an illness that makes it hard to travel, or if your home is damaged in by a fire close to the departure date, etc.
Just as with insurances, the cancellation protection is associated with both obligations and rights.
Liability and highest reimbursement
Cancellation protection has a liability of 10% but no less than SEK300 per person. The highest reimbursement is SEK15,000 per person.
Obligations
The cancellation protection should be purchased at the time of booking. The trip must be cancelled immediately after the hindrance has occurred and before the start of the trip.
Cancellation protection is not valid in case you delay the cancellation of the trip hoping for yourself or your next of kin to get well. The claim notification and a certificate of hindrance must be sent to us no later than 5 days after the cancellation date. Certificates from a social security office are not valid. Certificates from a social security office might be demanded as a complement to a medical certificate, in order to certify a sick leave together with a medical certificate.
A certificate of hindrance must fulfil the following criteria:
The doctor must dissuade from travel.
– A personal visit to the doctor is necessary.
– Diagnosis (= which illness/what has happened) must be stated.
– Date of first examination/treatment.
– The date of the examination resulting in the doctor’s recommendation not to travel.
– The doctor’s address and phone number as well as the doctor’s printed name by a stamp.
Rights
If all of the above demands are met, the traveller will be reimbursed with the amount paid, minus liability and the premium paid for the cancellation protection. The reimbursement will be made approx. 1-2 weeks after an approved certificate has been sent to us. During certain periods, the time of handling might be longer due to many errands.
The reason for cancellation is also applicable for co-traveller or near relative. You can read more under section 1, definitions below. Cause for cancellation is not valid for friend’s accompanying you on your trip. It must be unreasonable to travel.
